Two men charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child, both with additional counts of abuse, were picked up on warrants Monday, joining 23 others in the county jail booked on a variety of charges.
Thomas Boden, 28, was indicted on one count of aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony, and one count of indecency with a child, a second-degree felony, on April 6. He is currently being held in lieu of an $80,000 surety bond for the aggravated charge; no bond has been set for the indecency charge.
Jose Arturo Pena, 24, was again picked up on warrants for aggravated sexual assault of a child and sexual assault of a child on Monday in a case that has been going through hearings since the indictment was handed down on Feb. 10, 2013. Pena, who has recently been evaluated for competency to stand trial, is scheduled to have a competency hearing on April 15.
In addition to Boden and Pena, two persons apiece were jailed on Monday for theft, possession, assault and marijuana possession, while one person was charged with DWI. Those offenses are all alleged to have taken place within the last 24 hours.
Twenty-four inmates were released on Monday.
Over the weekend, 22-year-old Julio Edward Delatorre was put behind bars for injury to an elderly person after becoming involved in a dispute with his grandfather and turning violent. Delatorre just recently moved into his grandfather's house, and when the two had an argument, Delatorre punched the 68-year-old man repeatedly in the face. He is being held against a $30,000 surety bond.
On Sunday, police apprehended another male, repeat offender Otis Ray Woodfin, Jr., 29, who had caused alarm when he was seen in the Kid's Kingdom Park and again in Subway on Koenigheim behaving suspiciously.
Responding officer Chris Harringtonn located Woodfin at around 6:30 p.m. near MLK and 3rd streets, and noticed he was acting strangely, making odd statements and exhibiting signs that he was under the influence of something. Woodfin refused to complete any field sobriety tests, however due to his behavior, Harrington arrested him on probable cause for public intoxication and booked him into the county jail. He was determined to be a danger to himself and others.
