A drive-by shooting that was reported in the 700 block of Shiloh St. Sunday evening has been determined to be a complete fabrication, SAPD Sgt. Chris Cimino reports.
The call for the shooting came in Sunday evening between 7 and 7:30 p.m., and the victim, shot in the leg, told responding officers he had been the victim of a drive-by. After two hours of investigation that tied up four patrol officers and three detectives, the victim, presumably tired of questioning, told officers he had made the story up.
Sgt. Cimino relayed Sunday evening that the victim had actually been shot accidentally in the leg by a friend of his. Because the two feared they would get into trouble, they fabricated the story about a drive-by and stuck to it for a whole two hours before fessing up.
SAPD Detectives are now looking into the possibility of pressing charges against the two males for fabricating a crime that resulted in a full response and use of resources from the police department.
The men have been identified, however their names have not yet been released.
We will update this story as soon as we learn their fates.
