San Angelo Spiderman Arrested on Rooftop

A criminal who scaled a building a la Spiderman on Saturday night was busted by the cops pursuing him when a little boy at a 50th Anniversary party who happened to be outside, saw the suspect jump a fence and climb up on the building.

The party was being held at The Beauty Parlor on 424 Van Buren St and had nearly come to an end at around 11:00 p.m., when the little boy, Elliott, alerted his parents to the mischievous man on the roof.

“He was knocking on the door,” said the boy’s mother, Joy. “He’d accidentally gotten locked out, and then he said that a man jumped over the fence, ran through the yard, and climbed up the on the roof.”

The lights of several police cars flashed on Van Buren St. from San Antonio up to Freeland Street, forming one side of a two-block perimeter that extended east. As the police sought to locate the suspect, Elliott notified them of what he’d seen.

Police then climbed onto the roof and handcuffed the suspect, who turned out to be familiar face A.J. Carter.

Carter had been routinely stopped at San Antonio St., where the car was parked and an elderly man in handcuffs stood leaning on the hood, and within a few minutes, Carter fled, Police on the scene said.

“He doesn’t have any warrants,” Sergeant Rodriguez said in the parking lot of The Beauty Parlor as the fire department’s Ladder 1 moved into position to retrieve the suspect.

Within minutes, Police and Carter had climbed into a bucket on the ladder’s front end and the suspect was being walked down the truck and pulled into the parking lot, where he was questioned before being taken to jail.

At the time of arrest, the reason for Carter’s flight was unknown.

As for Elliott, who had celebrated his birthday the day before, he and his friends were treated to a trip up on the fire truck and the ladder before it was taken back to the station.

Above is a video we shot at the scene. You can see Carter being walked down the fire truck and into the parking lot. Ends with a real walk of shame as he passes the camera and ducks his head.
