Ballinger Man Killed in Fiery Crash on U.S. 67 in Irion County

IRION COUNTY, TX — A 67-year-old Ballinger man was killed Thursday evening when his pickup truck left the roadway, overcorrected and collided with an oncoming semi-tractor trailer on U.S. 67, causing both vehicles to catch fire, the Texas Department of Public Safety reported.

Agapito Sanchez Martinez of Ballinger was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash, which occurred about 6:30 p.m. near Bryant Lane, according to DPS.

Preliminary investigation shows Martinez was driving a 2006 Chevrolet pickup towing a trailer westbound when it drove off the right side of the road for an unknown reason. He overcorrected and entered the eastbound lane, striking a 2021 Mack tractor towing a semi-trailer driven by Avery Arredondo, 54, of San Angelo.
