SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo police responded to a major crash on North Chadbourne Street around 10:45 p.m. Thursday. Upon arrival, officers found an individual who had been ejected from their electric wheelchair and at least one crashed vehicle. By the time San Angelo LIVE! arrived at the scene, emergency medical services had already transported the victim to a hospital.
An eyewitness at the scene, speaking unofficially, reported that the driver of an unidentified vehicle collided with one or more vehicles near 17th Street before fleeing, making this a hit-and-run investigation. During the escape, the vehicle apparently struck the victim in the electric wheelchair. Police have not yet released any official statements on the incident.
Authorities have blocked off North Chadbourne Street at 17th and 18th streets. Tow services from Home Motors have not yet arrived, and the overturned wheelchair remains at the scene as it was when police first responded. It appeared to us police are embarking upon a major crash investigation.
The response suggests a serious crash investigation, typically reserved for incidents involving major bodily injury or fatality.
