Squirrel Causes Power Short, Ignites Grass Fire Near Coleman

 

COLEMAN, TX — A squirrel climbing a utility pole sparked a grass fire east of Coleman this afternoon, according to the Coleman Fire Department.

The fire, which threatened nearby structures, was contained with assistance from the Santa Anna Fire Department. Firefighters credited plowed and planted fields in the area for helping to slow the fire’s spread.

An investigation determined the blaze began after the squirrel caused an electrical short. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident, except for the squirrel.

The fire departments have not released further details at this time.
