SAN ANGELO, TX — In a heart-pounding spectacle, the Houston Harte Expressway turned into a scene straight out of an action movie around 10 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.
The night's drama unfolded when a white sedan, speeding eastbound on Freeland Street, an access road to the Houston Harte, veered wildly out of control, smashing into a house near Pierce and Freeland with a thunderous crash.
In a twist of fate, the driver, now a fugitive on foot, dashed across the expressway, turning the road into a high-stakes chase scene. A driver in the eastbound lanes of the Houston Harte Expressway, trying to dodge this human projectile, slammed on the brakes, only to be rear-ended by an unsuspecting vehicle following too close.
Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Sgt. Justin Baker revealed that this chaos erupted after the sedan's driver dodged a DPS traffic stop, leading to the cataclysmic crash into the house. In a swift response, both DPS and the San Angelo Police Department (SAPD) nabbed the fleeing driver, wanted for outstanding warrants, in a dramatic takedown.
While the adrenaline rush left minor injuries in its wake, including one to a shaken homeowner, no one needed to be whisked away to the hospital.
The eastbound lanes of the expressway were shut down, held hostage by the wreckage until the scene was cleared, leaving drivers to navigate around this unexpected night of high drama and disruption.
