Chimney Fire Causes $15,000 in Damage to Abilene Home

ABILENE, TX - A fire at a residence in the 4000 block of Edgemont Drive caused $15,000 in damage Monday evening after flames from a fireplace escaped through a separation in the bricks and spread into the walls.

The Abilene Fire Department responded to the blaze around 5 p.m. and discovered smoke coming from the home’s chimney. Firefighters contained the fire, preventing it from spreading into the attic.

The residents safely evacuated without injury. The Red Cross was notified and provided assistance to those affected.

Authorities reported that the damage was limited to the wall near the fireplace, thanks to the fast response of fire crews.
