Texas Man Dies, Woman Severely Burned in Fiery Christmas Crash

HOUSTON, TX - A man was killed, and a woman sustained severe burns when their car struck an electric pole and caught fire early Wednesday on Wilson Road near N. Sam Houston Parkway in Harris County.

Authorities reported the crash around 12:45 a.m., noting that transformers from the electric pole fell onto the vehicle, igniting a fire that trapped the occupants. Deputies and first responders faced delays extinguishing the blaze due to live power lines on the scene.

The man, identified as the driver, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The female passenger suffered burns on 70% of her body and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Investigators are determining whether speed, alcohol, or road conditions contributed to the crash, as thunderstorms earlier in the night left the roads slippery.

The investigation is ongoing.
