Oil Worker Dies After Industrial Accident in Andrews County

ANDREWS, TX – A 35-year-old oil worker died after being struck by debris when a high-pressure valve failed on an oil rig, according to the Andrews County Sheriff's office.

It happened on Dec. 12, about 14 miles east of Andrews on State Highway 176 at Sendero Rig #103. Authorities identified the worker as Daniel Carrasco.

Sheriff Stewart said Carrasco was working on a blowout preventer (BOP) when the high-pressure valve malfunctioned, causing the debris impact.

Andrews County deputies and emergency medical services responded to the scene. Carrasco was taken to Permian Regional Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

The sheriff’s office said Carrasco’s body has been sent to Lubbock for an autopsy. The investigation remains ongoing.
