Officer Performing Wheelie at Parade Crashes, Injures 10 Spectators

PALM SPRINGS, CA — Ten people were injured Saturday night when a police traffic officer performing a wheelie on a motorcycle lost control and crashed into spectators during the Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade, authorities said.

All injuries, including those sustained by the officer, were non-life-threatening. The injured were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment, according to police.

Witnesses reported the officer lost control of the motorcycle while popping a wheelie, causing the bike to slide into the crowd. The incident halted the annual parade, which typically draws between 80,000 and 100,000 attendees, for over an hour.

Emergency responders participating in the parade assisted the injured.

The crash occurred around 6 p.m. as spectators gathered for the 32nd annual event.
