Missouri Man Files Lawsuit After 18-Wheeler Crash in Big Spring

BIG SPRING, TX — A Missouri man has filed a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against a trucking company and its driver following a crash on August 23 that involved six vehicles in Big Spring.

The lawsuit, filed on August 26 in the 118th Judicial District Court of Howard County, alleges that the defendant, Andy Ortega, a driver for Seimon Trucking, LLC, failed to control his speed and rear-ended six vehicles stopped at a red light in a construction zone on Highway 350, approximately 20 miles northeast of Big Spring.

The plaintiff, Caleb Mathis, claims the 18-wheeler Ortega was operating was in poor condition and violated federal safety regulations.

According to the lawsuit, the collision caused a chain reaction, resulting in significant injuries to Mathis and five other drivers, all of whom were transported to local hospitals by Howard County EMS. Mathis reportedly sustained a brain injury.

The lawsuit further alleges that Seimon Trucking had recently failed safety inspections and violated various trucking regulations. Mathis is seeking justice and compensation for the injuries sustained.
