Man Dies in Rollover Crash North of Brownwood

BROWNWOOD, TX — A single-vehicle crash on Farm to Market Road 2632, four miles north of Brownwood, resulted in the death of a Temple man early Saturday morning.

Jerrod Lynn Pannell, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Tedodoro Perez at 8:18 a.m. The accident occurred at approximately 8:14 a.m. when Pannell's 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pickup truck failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway.

Preliminary investigations conducted by Trooper John Moody of the Texas Highway Patrol indicate that Pannell was traveling north on FM 2632 when he drove off the right side of the road. Attempting to steer back onto the roadway, Pannell induced a side skid. The vehicle struck a road sign during the skid and subsequently rolled over. Pannell, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover.

Speed and driver impairment due to alcohol use are believed to be contributing factors in the crash. Weather conditions at the time were clear, and the road was dry.

The investigation was supported by Trooper Mitchell Best of the Texas Highway Patrol in Comanche and Deputy Jason Bastardo of the Brown County Sheriff’s Office.
