Slaton ISD Student Trainers on the Road to Recovery

SLATON, TX — Three student trainers from Slaton Independent School District (ISD) have been transported to hospitals in Lubbock following a crash, while a fourth has been discharged and is recovering at home. Slaton ISD officials have stated via social media that all of the students are expected to make full recoveries.

"Slaton ISD wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to the medical staff at Andrews Medical Center for their exceptional care of our student trainers," the district shared in a public statement.

The collision occurred Friday afternoon in Andrews County, where the local community showed an outpouring of support, providing assistance and meals to the families of the affected students who made the journey to be by their children’s sides. Slaton ISD expressed their sincere gratitude for this community solidarity.

Details of the accident are that a Ford Expedition, belonging to Slaton ISD and carrying the student trainers, was en route to Kermit on Friday afternoon when it was struck by a truck tractor towing a semi-trailer. The report from Texas DPS also notes that a faculty member driving the Slaton ISD vehicle sustained injuries in the accident. However, the district has not provided an update on his or her condition. In a brighter note from the district, the 3A Slaton Tigers celebrated a victory over the Kermit Yellowjackets with a final score of 26-7 on Friday night.
