Slaton Tigers Involved in Accident with 18-Wheeler While En Route to Game

ANDREWS, TX — The Slaton Independent School District (SISD) is reaching out for your thoughts and prayers as their training staff faced an unfortunate accident near Andrews while en route to Kermit for a scheduled football game. Those injured in the incident are currently receiving treatment at the Andrews hospital, and further updates will be provided as information becomes available.

The dedicated football training staff from Slaton ISD was involved in a collision while on their way to Kermit for a Friday night football game. CBS7 reported that the occupants of the vehicle were students who were traveling in a Ford Expedition. The Expedition was struck by a truck tractor towing a semi-trailer. Four students from Slaton ISD, along with a faculty member, were transported to the Permian Regional Medical Center in Andrews. Additionally, the driver of the semi was also taken to the medical center.

According to the Department of Public Safety (DPS), the Expedition was traveling westbound on SH 115. As it reached the intersection with FM 2371, the semi, traveling southbound on FM 2371, failed to yield the right-of-way despite stopping at the stop sign. This resulted in the collision, as reported by CBS7.

The DPS investigation revealed that the driver of the semi was at fault for not yielding the right-of-way, leading to the accident.

Remarkably, despite the unfortunate incident, the scheduled football game proceeded as planned. The Slaton Tigers emerged victorious with a score of 26-7 against Kermit, maintaining a 2-1 record in district play.
