REPORT: Water Valley Teen Killed Riding Motorized Bicycle

 

WATER VALLEY, TX – The Texas Department of Public Safety has released more information not he fatal crash in Carlsbad Sunday that killed a Water Valley teen.

According to the DPS, on Aug. 27, 2023 at around 1 p.m., troopers were dispatched to Deer Valley Dr., approximately one mile south of Carlsbad, for a crash with injuries.

Once on scene, troopers found a Schwinn bicycle with a gas engine that had been hit by a 2023 Hyundai Elantra. The bicycle was being ridden by 14-year-old Kyle Jones. For Jones' GoFundMe see: Water Valley Community Mourns Teen Struck by Vehicle

The troopers investigation revealed that the Elantra was traveling east on Deer Valley Dr. The bicycle exited a private drive onto Deer Valley Dr. The Elantra struck the bicycle from behind with the front right of the Elantra. The driver was wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured. The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet.

The posted speed limit on the County road is 45 mph. At the time of the crash the weather was clear and the road was dry. 

The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office also assisted in the crash.
