Car Crashes into Former Downtown Man's Store

SAN ANGELO, TX — A car crash in downtown San Angelo on Saturday morning took out one of the new light fixtures and a wall of a former man’s shop.

According to reporters on scene, on Sep. 17 at around 11 a.m., officers with the San Angelo Police Department were dispatched to the 100 block of Chadbourne St. for the report of a major crash.

When they arrived, they discovered a  Chevrolet Traverse that had crashed into the building at a vacant store next to Fuentes Downtown Cafe.

Our reporters confirmed that the crash occurred when the driver of the Traverse hit the gas while trying to park. This sent the car over the curb, through a light fixture, and into the building.

No injuries were reported and it is unknown if any citations were issued at the scene.

The building damaged is the same building that partially collapsed in September 2018 into the Fuentes Cafe Downtown located next door. The roof collapse caused the iconic Mexican food restaurant to be closed for two years for a complete remodel that included placing large pier and beams to shore up the wall adjacent to the old vacant building. Watch as neighbor John Fuentes talked about the ordeal:

The building once housed The Man's Shop that has been closed for almost a decade.
