SAN ANGELO, TX – More organizations have chipped in to help out the homeless following Friday morning's burning of the homeless tent city in San Angelo.
As previously reported, on Mar. 11 at around 8 a.m., fire fighters with the San Angelo Fire Department were dispatched to the area of N. Bryant and 7th St. for a report of smoke. For more see: Fire Breaks Out at San Angelo Homeless Camp
Following the fire a number of churches, particularly St. Paul Presbyterian Church of San Angelo and West Side Baptist Church, have taken in the homeless. This led to more groups to open up their doors to help those in need.
"They are allowing the residents to keep their pets with them while seeking temporary shelter with them. I think that is amazing. So PAWS is offering a supportive role," said Jenie Wilson, executive director for the Concho Valley PAWS. "We will go and provide dog food, crates, blankets, bowls, and various supplies. We will also vaccinate the dogs while we have the opportunity to reach them at one time."
Another organization opening is the City of San Angelo's out of the cold program. If you or someone you know needs shelter from the cold, please go to The Salvation Army, at 34 W 3rd Street, and check in to receive a voucher for a motel room. If you have any questions, please give us a call at 325-949-3716.
The churches are asking for donations of everyday needs including:
- Pillows
- Blankets
- Sleeping bags
