WATCH: Oil Spill Shuts Down Section of East San Angelo

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – The San Angelo Police Department shut down a portion of a neighborhood in East San Angelo after a truck spilled oil for blocks.

According to reporters on the scene, officers with the San Angelo Police Department and firefighters with the San Angelo Fire Department were dispatched to the intersection of Ave. Q and S. Bryant for the report of an oil spill.

When the crews arrived, they discovered that a Valley Proteins truck had been spilling oil for blocks. Check out a video of the scene here:

 

Police quickly set up a permitter of the spill and shut down a section of the neighborhood. The north/south section from Ave. P to Ave. Q was blocked along with the intersection of Ben Ficklin to S. Bryant. 

Valley Proteins is a company that collects and recycles animal processing waste from the food industry that would otherwise lead to environmental contamination.

"We provide prompt disposal services to restaurants, supermarkets, slaughterhouses and poultry processing facilities throughout the mid-Atlantic, eastern and southwestern United States," states the company's website.

Crews are currently on scene cleaning up the spill. Police are asking the public to avoid the area.
