ABILENE, TX – The Abilene Police Department has issued an update on the multiple vehicle crash that caused a pileup on I-20 on Tuesday.
According to APD, just before 1:30 p.m. officers were dispatched to mile marker 284 on I-20 for reports of a crash. When officers arrived at the scene they found 19-year-old Kevin Ryan Day had walked into a lane of traffic.
Day was struck by a Dodge pickup truck traveling west on the interstate. This caused a chain reaction that led three other vehicles to collide –– a second Dodge pickup, a third Dodge pickup, and a Ford Escape.
The driver of the Dodge pickup, identified as 63-year-old Juan Rodriguez, was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries. His condition has been listed as critical.
The driver of the second Dodge, identified as Adison Noah Herd, was also transported to the hospital to be treated for injures and released later that day.
The driver of a third Dodge Truck, Bradley Neil, and the driver of the Ford Escape, Martita Figueroa, were not transported to the hospital.
According to police, alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this crash, and all occupants were wearing seatbelts.
No citations have been issued at this time.
