7th at Bryant Claims Another Crash Victim

SAN ANGELO, TX — The driver of a four-door sedan was rushed to the hospital after what appeared to be turning left in front of a southbound Ford F-150 pickup.

At the intersection of 7th St. and N. Bryant, the sedan was turning left across the southbound lanes. But the southbound truck arrived in the middle of the intersection at the same time and the two vehicles collided.

This intersection is problematic and many crashes happen here, particularly at night, because Bryant slightly turns, directing traffic almost head-on pointing at the drivers facing the opposite way who are yielding for the left turn at the intersection. The slight “jog” of the oncoming traffic changes the left-turning driver’s perception of the traffic’s rate-of-closure. It makes it appear the oncoming traffic is slowing.

The left turning driver then makes the turn assuming there is enough time to drive across the southbound lanes, but there is not.

Following the crash that happened at around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night, the driver of the sedan was transported via ambulance to Shannon Medical Center.

Police did not offer a statement about the tickets they did or did not write.
