Investigation Into Destructive Downtown Fire Continues

SAN ANGELO, TX -- San Angelo Fire Investigators continue to search for the cause of the downtown San Angelo structure fire that destroyed a building across the street from the Central Freshman Campus.

According to Assistant Fire Chief Todd Sanford Monday, "The Fire Marshals were there on the scene with the excavator and the city crew and they were pulling out a lot of debris, but I haven't heard how it started."

"There were three or four buildings there and only the first building burned."  Sanford said there was a travel trailer and some cars and other stuff outside that also burned.  Firefighters were able to save a trailer house outside.

As we reported Saturday, Firefighters responded to the fire on W. 3rd St. around noon Saturday and smoke could be seen for miles.
