Driver with Invalid License Runs Red Light, Shoves Impala on Suddenlink Box

SAN ANGELO, TX - Just before 4:30 p.m., San Angelo Police and medics dispatched to the intersection of Freeland and Howard for the report of a major crash. One of the vehicles landed on a Suddenlink box, so AEP was also called out to the scene to shut off electricity so officials could proceed to clear the crash and remove the vehicle off the box. 

All of this occurred because a driver with an invalid license ran a red light, said SAPD Officer John Palmer.

Officer Palmer said the driver of a Dodge Ram pickup was traveling southbound on Howard while the driver of a Chevrolet Impala traveled eastbound on Freeland. The driver of the Impala was so shook up that he didn't know what happened, said Officer Palmer. 

"The driver of the Dodge Ram said he entered the intersection on a green light," added Palmer.

However, two witnesses said the Dodge Ram ran the red the light.

"Based on the statements from the two independent witnesses, the driver of the Dodge pickup was issued a citation for disregarding a red light," said Palmer. He was also issued a citation for driving without a license.

Both drivers claimed injury, but both refused transport to local hospitals.

Traffic was diverted to one lane, and because the driver of the Impala landed on a Suddenlink box, officials worried it might be "live," so AEP had to head to the scene to turn off the electricity.
