Driver of Odessa Semi Fails to Control Speed, Collides with Another Semi

 

SAN ANGELO, TX - At this time, several first responders are on scene at a crash on US 87 involving 18-wheelers. One of the 18-wheelers is engulfed in flames, while another is on its side.

At this time, Tom Green County Sheriff's Office officials are asking drivers to avoid US 87 between Ft. McKavett Rd. and Coor Rd. Northbound lanes are closed.

UPDATE @ 2:51 p.m.

Trooper Dustin Henderson with the Texas Department of Public Safety in San Angelo, said, at approximately 1:13 p.m. today, a truck tractor semi-trailer was disabled on the shoulder of the northbound side of US 87, just south of Ft. McKavett Rd. Another semi was traveling northbound in the outside lane and failed to control his speed. As a result, he struck the back of the disabled semi stationed on the shoulder.

Despite the flames and condition of the vehicles, the drivers reported no injuries, and no one was transported to the hospital. There was no one in the disabled truck, which belongs to Pride Transport Services in San Angelo, at the time of the crash. The truck tractor traveling northbound belongs to Francis Drilling Fluids out of Odessa.

The roadway will open in about 20 more minutes the trooper said. He added that Trooper Sylvester Marenya, stationed out of Big Spring, is investigating the crash.
