A 52-year-old Lubbock woman, Angela Lynn Adkins, died Thursday afternoon after making an unsafe lane change and losing control of her vehicle.
DPS officials said, at about 3:25 p.m., Adkins was traveling north on SH 351, about 7.7 miles northeast of Abilene in a 2008 Pontiac GT. At the same time, Bruce Waylon Foreman, 62, of Abilene was traveling south in a 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe. Adkins passed another vehicle in a no-passing zone and swerved back into her lane to avoid an oncoming vehicle.
At that point, Adkins’ vehicle overcorrected and went back into the southbound lane, crashing head on with Foreman’s Tahoe.
DPS said Adkins was pronounced dead at the scene, and her body was taken to Abilene Professional Services. She was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.
A passenger in her vehicle, Charles Leslie Dixon, 48, of Graham suffered incapacitating injuries, and was transported to Hendrick Medical Center. He too wore his seatbelt.
Foreman, who also wore his seatbelt, suffered incapacitating injuries. He was transported to Hendrick Medical Center as well.
DPS noted that the posted speed limit in the area is 75 mph, and the road conditions on that day were dry and partly clear and cloudy.
Trooper Daniel White with DPS in Anson is the investigating officer, and the crash remains under investigation.
