A 99-year-old woman, Gladys Sanders, of Abilene, died this morning at Hendrick Medical Center from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash, said the Abilene Police Department.
According to APD, police were called to the intersection of Ambler Avenue and Clinton Street at 8:22 a.m. this morning. They learned that Gary Sanders, 69, was traveling westbound in a Hyundai car on Ambler on the inside lane. At the same time, 28-year-old Bryce Null was traveling southbound in a blue Ford on Clinton and had stopped at a stop sign. Null’s view was obstructed by a third vehicle that also headed westbound on Ambler on the outside lane.
“As the third vehicle turned onto Clinton, [Null] pulled into the intersection, striking the Hyundai on the passenger side door, causing it to cross the oncoming lanes of traffic and to hit a tree,” said APD.
Both Gary and Gladys Sanders, Gary's mother who was his passenger, were transported to Hendrick Hospital. Gladys died a short time later from her injuries. She was not wearing a seatbelt.
APD said the investigation is ongoing.
