One Driver Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash in Eastland County

A 43-year-old Ranger man was pronounced dead yesterday afternoon after a two-vehicle crash in Eastland County on FM 2214, one mile north of Desdemona, said a Department of Public Safety press release Thursday.

According to the release, the driver of a 2010 Ford Fusion, Steven Duane Wells, was traveling northbound on FM 2214 in the wrong lane. As a result, he crashed head on with the driver of a 2001 Ford F-250 pickup traveling southbound.

Wells, of Ranger, was pronounced dead at the scene by Judge White. Officials transported his body to Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland. DPS stated Wells had his seatbelt on at the time of the crash.

The other driver, Wayne Raymond McCoy, 58, of Eastland was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth with serious incapacitating injuries. He also wore his seatbelt at the time of the crash. Road and weather conditions were reported as dry and clear.

Frederick Biddle, public information officer with DPS, said the reason for the crash is under investigation.
