Update 12:25 p.m.

The San Angelo Police Department said Rudy Castañeda, who was traveling southbound on La Cruz St. in a white Dodge sedan, was being pulled over for a traffic stop. He was apparently driving without a license. SAPD said when police tried to make the stop, Castañeda decided to evade police.

Castañeda sped south on La Cruz and ran the stop sign leading out to Knickerbocker Rd. At that point, he crashed into the driver of a blue Dodge Ram 1500 pickup.

"He jumped out of the car and ran. We had a foot pursuit. The chase lasted about 2 to 3 blocks [overall]," police said.

SAPD also said Castañeda is being charged with felony evading police in a motor vehicle and driving with no driver's license. Additionally, he was charged with felon in possession of a firearm.

At this time, SAPD is investigating the scene. Eastbound traffic on Knickerbocker Rd. is blocked, so continue to avoid the area.
