Minor Gas Leak Temporarily Shuts Down Stripes in North San Angelo

A Chevrolet sedan that crashed through a fence at Junius and Howard streets in north San Angelo has caused a minor gas leak, resulting in a temporary evacuation of a neighboring Stripes convenience store.

According to Shelly Burnett of Atmos Energy, the leak is minor, but safety protocols dictate evacuation and temporary closure of affected areas, in this case, Stripes.

The wrecking service, Home Motors, has arrived on scene, but the vehicle is resting on top of the gas meter. Due to the precarious location, Atmos is calling in a backhoe to maneuver the vehicle around the meter.

Junius is open to through traffic; however, Howard is currently blocked. The San Angelo Police and Fire Department personnel are currently on scene.
