A woman driving a Land Rover from San Angelo to Abilene on U.S. 277 was transported to Hendrick Medical Center after she lost control and hit a tree.
According to the Texas DPS who was investigating the single-vehicle crash 23 miles north of Bronte, the woman fell asleep. After drifting off the roadway and striking a large overhanging branch from a tree, she awoke, startled, and over-corrected, sending the Land Rover into a spin across both lanes of traffic.
There were two children in the vehicle as passengers.
A San Angelo doctor, an off-duty paramedic, and an RN stopped to render aid before an ambulance arrived. The two children, a boy and a girl, were shaken and only had bumps and scrapes. The mother was extracted by volunteer firefighters but only suffered cuts and bruises. She was taken to Hendrick as a precaution.
The Elm Creek Citizens Association, a volunteer fire department, assisted at the scene.
The crash happened at 2:47 p.m.
