Two Dodge Ram 1500s were destroyed in a crash on N. Koenigheim Blvd. when one of the Dodge drivers apparently felt a sudden urge for Popeye’s fried chicken.
According to the San Angelo police, a black Dodge Ram 1500 pickup was traveling north on Koenigheim in the inside lane and a blue Dodge Ram 1500 was in the next lane to the right. Suddenly, the blue Dodge turned into the black Dodge to dash into the parking lot of Popeye’s.
The driver of the black Dodge Ram performed evasive maneuvers, but to no avail. He ended up rolling the truck up on its side—the driver’s side, thus trapping the driver in the cab.
Miraculously, the black Ram driver wasn’t injured. The side airbags deployed, cushioning the blow.
The blue Dodge Ram came to a rest behind the black one with substantial front-end damage.
Police said there were no major injuries. The driver of the blue Dodge was taken to the hospital as a precaution. The black Dodge driver, after he freed himself from the wreckage, indicated that he might go to the hospital via private vehicle to get checked out.
Police cited the driver of the blue Dodge for failure to yield the right-of-way when pulling into a private drive.
