Baby Seriously Injured, Man Dies in Crash on I-10 Near Sonora

A man was killed and three injured, including a one-month-old baby, in a single vehicle crash on I-10, one mile west of Sonora Friday morning.

According to the Texas DPS, Alberto Perez-Perdomo, 33, of Odessa was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound on I-10 and ran off the left side of the roadway. He corrected back to the right. It was an overcorrection, because he soon ran off the right side of the road and collided with a rock embankment.

The Malibu came to a rest facing west, the opposite direction.

The driver, Perez-Perdomo was pronounced dead by a medical doctor, Dr. Duarte. DPS did not report the doctor’s first name.

In the Malibu with Perez-Perdomo were Geikiel Jacomino-Perez, 38, of Odessa; Yamile Aguila-Cervera, 42, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Heisy Encha-Garcia, 27, of Odessa; and Kevin Jacomino, 1 month old, of Odessa.

Aguila-Cervera, Encha-Garcia and the baby sustained incapacitating injuries, DPS reported. The adults were rushed to Lillian Memorial Hudspeth Hospital in Sonora. The baby was taken to Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo.

The weather was clear and the roadway dry, DPS reported. The speed limit is 80 mph along that stretch of interstate.

Trooper Nancy Mata, Highway Patrol in Sonora was the investigator. Sergeant Timothy Bennie, Trooper Rob Regan, Trooper Justin Baker, and the Sutton County Sheriff’s Office assisted.

The crash happened at 10:16 a.m. on July 31, 2015.
