Lady Goes Four-Wheelin' in a Focus Off U.S. 67

Texas DPS reported that a senior citizen driving a Ford Focus ran off U.S. 67 this morning and went on a trip through a field of Mesquite sprigs.

The driver told DPS that she “blacked out” and lost control of the car while traveling northbound at 65 mph near the intersection of FM 1692.

The Ford Focus she was driving departed the prepared surface, barged through the shallow barrow ditch, crashed through a fence line, and finally came to a stop 50 yards north of the highway in some rancher’s field.

Along with DPS, San Angelo Fire Department, EMS, Tom Green County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the crash that was originally reported to be a rollover crash.

As it turned out, there was no rollover. The lady was unhurt and seen walking around at the crash scene. She was checked out by EMS just to make sure.

The investigating DPS trooper said that no citations were issued. No other vehicles were involved. The crash happened around 9 a.m. this morning.

Good thing she veered right and not left. She could've went head on with a family of 4. I'm so relieved that the police didn't issue her a citation for failure to maintain control her vehicle, and that she will be able to keep her license without finding out why she blacked out or any further road testing whatsoever. It's a great feeling to know that I am on the road with these kinds of drivers every day on my way to and from work.

If one had a legion of the elderly at their disposal, anyone could probably run their own crime syndicate in Angelo with ease. Other than the city government, that is.

I am just wondering how you all are going to get around when you get older (and you will) and have no one to drive you and you can't afford a cab or bus?
