Police: Alcohol and Excessive Speed Contributing Factors in Tuesday Rollover

Alcohol and excessive speed are believed to be contributing factors in a rollover crash that occurred at approximately 9:24 p.m. on Tuesday in the 2200 block of Red Bluff Road, police state.

Officers dispatched to the scene located a 2000 Ford Expedition in the bar ditch, identified as 26-year-old Vanessa Zuniga and 53-year-old Joel Robledo.

The investigation indicates that the vehicle was traveling west on Red Bluff Road and drifted off the left side of the road.  The driver overcorrected and crossed over to the right side of the road, then overcorrected again, causing the vehicle to roll.  Both Zuniga and Robledo were ejected from the vehicle. Conflicting statements given to investigating officers could not positively identify the actual driver of the vehicle.

Zuniga was transported to Shannon Medical center for serious, but not life-threatening injuries, including a possible head injury.  Robledo was initially transported to Shannon Medical Center where he suffered a broken pelvis.  Robledo was subsequently transported to a Dallas Hospital due to the complexity of these injuries.

Excessive speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors in this accident.  Charges of driving while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury may be pursued.  The accident is currently under investigation.

Police state that according to information they have received, there is no relation between Vaness Zuniga and Jaime Zuniga, the victim of a stabbing at Fiddlestrings on Wednesday morning.
