A white minivan crashed into the back of a livestock trailer on 67 near Hudson Livestock Supplements, potentially injuring some of the cattle on board and resulting in the minivan driver being transported to the hospital via Medic 1.
The minivan appears to have been northbound on 67 near Thompson Road, when a flatbed truck pulling a long livestock trailer was off to the right preparing to turn onto private road 101.
The driver of the minivan apparently did not see the turning truck and trailer in time and crashed into, demolishing the front passenger side of the van.
Witnesses on scene saw the driver walking around, however he was later taken to the hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.
Some of the cows may have been injured in the crash, witnesses report, possibly sustaining a few broken legs and scratches. The door to the trailer was ripped off in the crash.
The driver of the truck and trailer lives near the scene of the crash, and although the ball of the hitch was broken off during the impact, he managed to rig it to drive the cattle up to his house.
Tom Green County Sheriff's Deputies, Medic 1 and Quail Valley Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.
UPDATE:
The rancher who owns the cattle said none of his animals appeared to have broken bones upon closer inspection, but allowed that they may be very sore for a few days due to the impact.
