PREVIEW: Bobcats Prepare for Battle Against Permian in District Showdown

SAN ANGELO- The Central Bobcats took a loss this past week against Midland Legacy and unfortunately, the schedule doesn’t get any easier.

The Bobcats lost to the Rebels 56-29 and still have Permian and Frenship on their schedule. The Bobcats rushing attack only had 63 yards and one score. The Bobcats only managed 41 rushing yards against Legacy put up 346 rushing yards.

Hill had good numbers through the air as he went 21-41 for 383 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. Tyler Walker had over 100 yards at receiver where Jacob Gallegos put up two touchdowns and added 61 yards. Jacob English took three catches for 59 yards and one score

On the season, Hill had gone 124-201 for 1,623 yards, 16 touchdowns, and four interceptions. He has rushed for 1,011 yards and 14 touchdowns. Tyree Brawley, Aiden Barron, and Jayvion Robinson have 400, 213, and 250 yards respectively and have 10 touchdowns combined. When Hill is involved, the Cats have no problems moving the ball on the ground.

The Bobcat receivers have been playing well. English and Gallegos are tied in catches at 20 but English has 347 yards and six touchdowns where Gallegos has 188 yards and two scores. Tyler Walker is second in yards with 313. Ben Imler and Keevon Rice has 214 and 213 yards respectively and seven touchdowns combined. The Bobcats have plenty of weapons and an offense that can score from anywhere.

Defensively, Darius Floyd has been the leader and currently leads in tackles with 105, eight for loss, and sacks with four of Central’s 15 total. Floyd also has one fumble recovery, two caused fumbles, and a blocked field goal. Evan Arnold, Andrew Gonzalez, and James Burney have two sacks each. Arnold is second in tackles with 64.

Central has gotten the ball back be it through picks for fumbles. Luke Gould leads the team with three interceptions. Four players are tied with one each. Burney has caused three fumbles and the Bobcats have recovered six altogether.

As for Permian, quarterback Rodney Hall Jr. has gone 75-134 for 958 yards, 10 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Hall Jr. is second in rushing with 342 yards and four scores behind the running back Justice Lara with 638 yards and 13 touchdowns. Tabarie Jones is third on the team with 252 yards and one touchdown.

Permian has been good through the air with Jaquan Richardson as the go-to guy with 33 receptions, 478 yards, and four scores. Jones follows Richardson with 200 yards and one touchdown. Deonte Bass, Jadyn Pruitt, and Issac Herrera have 90, 52, and 48 yards respectively and have three touchdowns combined.

Permian likes to run the ball so Central will have to have great run defense. Of course, Permian offensive lineman, Harris Sewell, is a D-1 player, and as one of the best offensive linemen in the country, has committed to Clemson already. The Bobcats will need to focus on attacking the line as well.

The Panther’s defense is full of splash plays with 19 sacks, 36 quarterback hurries, 69 tackles for loss, 12 interceptions, 24 passes defended, eight fumble recoveries, and three caused fumbles. Bass leads in interceptions with six so Hill will need to know where Bass is at all times. Bryce Woody has two picks, and four players are tied with one each.

Mojo gets after the quarterback so the Central offensive line will have to be ready. Jace Gilliam has five sacks, Parker Hayes and Desmond Hill have four each, Caysen Clinton and Preston Grizzell have two apiece. Gilliam leads Permian in tackles with 68. Haynes has 49, Clinton has 45, and Grizzell has 41

This game will affect the playoffs. Permian is a tough team and have always been so Central will need to play a near perfect game to pull this one out. The Bobcats have already fallen to fourth place and Frenship in the regular season finale won’t be easier either. The Cats offense will be something to watch as Hill battles against this stout Mojo defense.
