PLAYOFF PICTURE: Familiar Foes Could Meet in Opening Round Between Miles, Eldorado

SAN ANGELO – The Miles Bulldogs need some help after losing to Albany Friday night and the Eldorado and Sterling City Eagles could be in a dogfight for third place early in the Texas High School Football playoffs.

2A-2 District 6 Region 2

The Bulldogs blew out the Abilene TLCA Eagles in Week 9 81-0 and still hang on to second place in district. District leaders, the Albany Lions, shut out Roscoe 55-0 and the Cross Plains Buffaloes put it on Hamlin 54-19. Albany is the only team that’s still undefeated in district while Miles and Roscoe are 2-1 followed by Cross Plains with a district record of 1-2.

Current District Standings:

  1. Albany (6-2, 3-0)
  2. Miles (6-2, 2-1)
  3. Roscoe (4-3, 2-1)
  4. Cross Plains (6-2, 1-2)
  5. Hamlin (5-3, 1-2)
  6. Abilene TLCA (0-8, 0-3)

Albany will most likely be the district champions from this district. The Lions already have a record of 3-0 in district and play Hamlin and Abilene TLCA to finish district. Miles is in second place at the moment and have two tough games against Roscoe next week and Cross Plains the following week. Miles did lose to Albany in the district opener so moving to first could be very difficult for the Bulldogs.

Roscoe is in third place having beat Cross Plains and Abilene TLCA already but losing to Albany. The Plowboys will play the Bulldogs next week and have a chance to improve their standings, but it doesn’t mean much if they drop their regular season finale to Hamlin. If Cross Plains beats Abilene TLCA and Miles, they can move up as well.

Hamlin plays Albany and Roscoe to finish out the season and can get a playoff berth as they’re in fifth place at the moment. Abilene TLCA probably won’t’ make the playoffs and were one of the teams that moved up a classification this year from six-man. They also have a pretty tough schedule from this point forward as they’ll play Cross Plains next week and Albany in the Week 11.

2A-2 District 5 Region 2

This is a close district with Wink being the only team to be perfect not just in district play, but for the entire season. Sterling City, Eldorado, and McCamey all are 3-1. In Week 9, the Eldorado Eagles shut out the Iraan Braves 42-0. Wink beat up on the McCame Badgers 42-28. The other Eagles in this division, Sterling City, beat Water Valley 42-14. Due to numbers and injuries, Midland TLCA had to forfeit the rest of their season.

Current District Standings:

  1. Wink (8-0, 3-0)
  2. Sterling City (5-3, 3-1)
  3. Eldorado (4-4, 3-1)
  4. McCamey (6-2, 3-1)
  5. Iraan (4-5, 2-3)
  6. Midland TLCA (0-7, 0-4)
  7. Water Valley (2-7, 0-5)

Wink and Sterling City play each other next week and if the Wildcats win, they’ll be district champions as their Week 11 game is against Midland TLCA. Sterling City would jump into the first spot and would have to beat Eldorado in the regular season finale to hold onto that spot.

Eldorado has a pretty tough schedule the rest of the way with one against McCamey in Week 10 then Sterling City in Week 11. McCamey will face Iraan in the following week after Eldorado. Iraan has a chance to get into the playoffs as they’re currently fifth place.  They’ll have to beat McCamey to do is due to their bye week this week.

Water Valley was another one of the teams that moved up out of six-man and have a new head coach. The Wildcats season is essentially over as next week they would’ve played Midland TLCA then had their bye week.
