Ozona Lions get a Big Win over Miles Bulldogs

MILES – The Miles Bulldogs dropped one against Ozona when the Lions came to town in Week 5 of the high school football season.

The Bulldogs were looking to start 5-0 when the Lions came to town last Friday night, but Ozona put up a great fight. After the first quarter, Miles led 14-6 and it would be the only time they had the lead as Ozona went on to put up 41 total points against Miles’ 26.

In the first quarter, Ozona’s Rigo Treto put up a quick score and after a failed extra point, the score was 6-0. A couple minutes later, Miles’ quarterback Hayven Book ran in a touchdown from about 12 yards out and left the Bulldogs up by one point, 7-6.

Miles wasn’t done as Book threw a pass to Ellison for a 22-yard touchdown that put them ahead of the Lions 14-6.

The second quarter started off with a quick Lions score when sophomore quarterback Hudson Fowler dropped one into Max Everett from about 30-yards out. Running back Logan Fay would run in the 2-point conversion. About halfway through the second quarter, Fay would get a touchdown, this time from 45 yards out.

About three minutes left, Miles running back Devin Medina would get an 11-yard touchdown run, but the extra point attempt would fail. Less than a minute left in the half, Matthew Daniels would take a 45-yard pass from Fowler for a touchdown. Ozona would go into the half up eight, 28-20.

The second half kicked off and Ozona would score twice within thirty seconds. Fowler threw a touchdown to Daniels from 13 yards out then Miles running back Medina would fumble the ball and Ozona’s Logan Thompson would return the ball 30 yards for another score. Medina was injured on the play. The Lions would go up 41-20 heading into the fourth quarter.

Miles put up the only points in the last frame when Jaylen Torres took an 8-yard pass from Book for a touchdown.

Fowler had an incredible game and threw for 247 yards and four touchdowns while Book was no slouch with 187 yards and two scores. Both teams are going in for their bye weeks but when they return to play, district will have begun and the 4-1 Bulldogs will take on the Albany Lions and Ozona will play the Sonora Broncos.
