3-0 Start Within Reach for the Red Hot Lake View Chiefs

SAN ANGELO – The Lake View Chiefs are 2 - 0 on the season and have a really good chance to stay perfect when they play Vernon this Friday in San Angelo Stadium.

The Lake View Chiefs have not been 3-0 since the 2019 season where they turned in a 3-8 season. This season, they have a good chance at being 3-0 again. In Week 1, they beat Lamesa 44-28 and in Week 2, they beat Sweetwater 39-25.

This week, they play the Vernon Lions, who are also a perfect 2-0 on the season. They beat the City View Mustangs, who have not scored a single point this season in two games. Next, the Lions played Gainesville, who average 18 points a game. Both City View and Gainesville are 0-2 on the season.

Now, the two teams Lake View has played are also 0-2. Lamesa played Muleshoe last week and lost 41-14 and Sweetwater played Idalou. The Mustangs put up a good fight in both of their games this season.

The question is, can Lake View outlast the Vernon Lions and move to 3-0. The Chiefs have a good one-two punch at running back with Ricky Ramirez and Ian Cortez. Ramirez has 282 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the season. Cortez has 191 yards on the season and two touchdowns.

Lake View has been a run first team this season, opting to run the ball 82 times against throwing it 32 times and they’ve been successful at it. They have a total of 8 rushing touchdowns.

When the Chiefs do throw the ball, they spread the wealth around. Five different players have caught passes and all their yardage falls between 27 yards and 89 yards with Manely and Taylor catching touchdown passes.

Defensively, the Chiefs could use a little more pressure on the quarterback with only one player, Andru Rivera, having two sacks and the defense only has 8 tackles for loss this year so far. A shining light would be Michael Duran. The junior has 4 interceptions on the season and the team has 7 interceptions in just two games.
