Grape Creek Eagles Looking to Continue Success on the Football Field

GRAPE CREEK – The Grape Creek Eagles football team is looking to win its district outright this season and will be looking to get a first playoff win.

Last year, the Grape Creek Eagles ended up sharing the district championship with Sonora and Brady. In the last week of the regular season, Grape Creek, Sonora, and Brady all won their games against Ingram Moore, Ballinger, and Bangs respectively.

After dropping 55 points on Ingram Moore, the Eagles played the Alpine Bucks in the playoffs and lost 27-14.

Head Coach Tanner Thiel said, “We had a really good summer.”. The Eagles are looking to continue the success of last season and keep it going.

Players to watch are Cougar Jetton, Colton Walker, Tyler Gosnell, and a basketball player Slade Walker who decided to swap out basketball shoes for football cleats. Walker usually plays basketball but is looking to help the Eagles on the football field this season.

This season, Grape Creek returns 5 starters on both sides of the ball. On Friday, the Eagles kick off the season against Stanton. The Eagles then play Christoval, Bangs, Ozona, and Junction. To start district, Grape Creek gets tested right away against Wall, then play TLCA, Early, Brady, and finally Ballinger to finish the season.
