ABILENE – Concept art of the new press box planned for Shotwell Stadium in Abilene has been released.
Wednesday, Abilene Independent School District released images of concept art of what the new Shotwell Stadium press box could look like. A new press box was approved in February by the Abilene ISD Board of Trustees and has been talked about for 2 decades.
"We were probably talking about a new press box at Shotwell when I was a student in the Abilene Independent School District.” Abilene ISD superintendent Dr. David Young said. “In 2002, the Shotwell Fund was created by the district, and I know one of our board members pointed out that that was a topic of discussion then.”
The current press box does not have an elevator to make a compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act or even air conditioning.
Huckabee Architects produced the concept images, and they are subject to change. The architect firm also has worked on Prosper’s football stadium that came in at $48 million and Tarleton’s renovated Memorial Stadium.
The new press box at Shotwell Stadium is expected to come with an $8.2 million price tag.

That press box (and the rest of the stadium) was needing repairs back in the '80's!! I was an equipment manager and had to take some things for the coaches up in the press box before a game one time. The 2nd floor literally had at least one pot hole in it.
The rest of the stadium was in bad shape at the time, but most of that has since been updated to a very classy facility.
