Long Time Andrews High School Football Head Coach Stepping Down

ANDREWS, TX – Ralph Mason, head football coach of the Andrews Mustangs, is retiring.

Mason has been the head coach at Andrews for 10 seasons with a record of 84-38.

“I pretty much had made that decision actually a few months back.” Mason said. “I have been thinking about it the last two or three years.”

Mason informed the superintendent, coach, and players on Wednesday.

“The kids just keep bringing me back and I told my juniors today, I told them that I was really kind of planning finishing out with them. But then I told them, that’s what I have been doing every year, every year I come back and wanting to keep going with the next group.” Mason said.

Mason, 65, may well by remembered for his leadership in the Andrews community after a fatal bus crash that killed band director Darin Johns and bus driver Marc Boswell.
