SAN ANGELO – With high school football playoffs only a few weeks away, the 6A-2 district is up for grabs.
Central is currently 1-2 in district while almost the other teams in the district are 1-1 except for Midland Legacy, which is 1-0.
The games for Friday night are:
- Midland Legacy vs. Frenship
- Permian vs. Odessa
Abilene is on a bye week.
Central beat the Midland Bulldogs Thursday night 41-17 to get their first district win of the season. They face a steep climb as their next 3 games are against Permian, Midland Legacy, and Abilene. The good news is the Bobcats have their bye week so they'll have an extra week of preparation for the Permian Panthers.
While they did get the win against the Bulldogs, Central gave up over 300 yards rushing to Midland with Landry Walls rushing for 126 yards and running back Zion Ward with 118 yards.
Focusing on stopping the run against Midland Legacy’s running back Makhilyn Young who is averaging over 200 yards a game is paramount to get into the post-season as is stopping Abilene’s quarterback Abel Ramirez.
That won’t matter if Permian beats Central on October 22.
So while the playoffs are about a month away, Central has to take care of business because it’s not fun depending on other teams to lose to get in.
One thing for certain is the playoff picture will be more clear in a couple weeks.
