Sheriff’s Office Alerts Mertzon Residents to AEP Drone Mapping

MERTZON, TX — The Irion County Sheriff’s Office has notified residents that American Electric Power is mapping the Mertzon area with a drone, accompanied by a white AEP pickup truck.

The operation is expected to last about a week, according to a social media post from the sheriff’s office Thursday.

“Please be respectful, no shooting, mooning or rude gestures,” the post stated.

In response to a comment asking whether the mapping covers Mertzon or all of Irion County, the sheriff’s office clarified that it is limited to Mertzon.

The office said it will post updates if AEP notifies it of any additional mapping areas.
