SAN ANGELO, TX — The Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office will be formally recognized for 150 years of dedicated service during a special resolution presentation at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at the Tom Green County Commissioners Court.
The resolution commemorates the founding of the Sheriff’s Office on April 7, 1875, when Sheriff Frank Lamonte ran the office alone. Since then, the office has grown to include 236 personnel, including staff at the Tom Green County Detention Center, and has been led by 23 sheriffs.
Sheriff Nick Hanna said the milestone represents more than just the agency’s longevity.
“This milestone is not just about our agency — it’s about the deputies, staff, and the citizens we serve,” Hanna said. “For 150 years, the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office has stood as a pillar of safety and justice in our community. We are honored to celebrate this legacy with our residents and leaders. As individuals, we are dedicated to striving to provide the best law enforcement service possible for the citizens of Texas and of Tom Green County.”
The commemorative resolution will be presented during Tuesday’s Commissioners Court session at the Tom Green County Courthouse. County officials, law enforcement personnel, and members of the public are expected to attend.
Following the presentation, Sheriff Hanna will distribute commemorative 150th anniversary badges — purchased by deputies — to several command staff members. The remainder of the department’s commissioned officers will receive theirs later in the week.
Additional activities to mark the anniversary are being planned during National Police Week, scheduled for May 11–17, 2025.
