Beloved Children's Librarian Retires After 32 Years

 

SAN ANGELO, TX - After over three decades of dedicated service, Tom Green County bids farewell to cherished Children's Librarian, Sally Meyers. A retirement reception has been organized to celebrate her remarkable career and the influence she has had on the community.

The community is invited to join the retirement reception in honor of Sally Meyers on Tuesday, Jan. 23, from 4 to 6 p.m. The event will take place at the Stephens Central Children’s Department, located at 32 West Beauregard.

“For over 32 years, Sally Meyers has been spreading the joy of reading among the children of San Angelo,” the library stated. “While instilling a love of books, Sally also shared her spirit of compassion; teaching others to be kind, considerate, and above all, accepting. She has built collections, programs, and services that are welcoming to all, and the impact she has had on the community is immeasurable.”

In addition to her role as Children's Librarian, Meyers boasts an impressive list of career accomplishments:

  • Chair of the Texas 2 x 2 Committee and Chair of student participation for the Texas Bluebonnet Committee.
  • Active participation on the Texas Summer Reading Committee and the Texas Reading Club Advisory Committee.
  • Author of the Texas Summer Reading song for 18 years and presenter at various conferences.
  • Organizer of the annual "Read to Me March Around the Courthouse" for 28 consecutive years.
  • Winner of the 2023 Remarkable Woman contest hosted by Nexstar Media Group.
  • Instrumental in restoring the historical Dunbar Library.
  • Co-contributor to the book "Even Our Friendship Was Illegal: Coe Students Confront Mississippi Segregation in 1962."
  • Advocate for the North Side Boys and Girls Club in San Angelo.
