Burn Ban Now in Effect for Tom Green County

SAN ANGELO, TX — As of Tuesday, June 20, at 9 a.m., Tom Green County is officially under a burn ban. During a heatwave permeating West Texas over the past week, the Tom Green County Commissioners Court determined that the ban was necessary.

Listed on the agenda and discussed amongst the Commissioners Court members, the heatwave was the main factor in enacting the burn ban. While the ban is in effect, the Commissioners Court did not include fireworks. July 4th is safe this year as the Commissioners Court needed to enact a burn ban 30 days in advance to ban fireworks from Independence Day celebrations. However, fireworks have always been illegal inside San Angelo city limits.

The burn ban will be in effect for 90 days but can be lifted if Tom Green County receives enough rainfall. Although significant rain seems unlikely for the foreseeable future. The burn ban prohibits county residents from burning brush or household garbage. Grills can still be used for barbeque.
