SAN ANGELO – Tom Green County Justice of the Peace Pct. 2 J.P. McGuire will offer his resignation to the Commissioners Court Tuesday morning and Commissioners are set to appoint his replacement at the same meeting.
According to the agenda for the regular meeting, Judge McGuire will resign effective March 31, 2022 and the court will appoint Tom Daniel at the new Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace effective April 1, 2022 to fill McGuire's unexpired term.
McGuire announced his intention to retire on social media earlier this year.
Daniel for the Justice of the Peace Pct. 2 office in the March 1, 2022 GOP Primary and defeated Chris Duerstine.
McGuire's term expires this December 31, 2022. By resigning, McGuire allows Daniel to take over nine months early.
McGuire was first elected Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace representing the Southeast quadrant of Tom Green County in 2010. His office is located at 5006 Knickerbocker Rd.
There are four Justices of the Peace in Texas Counties by statue. In Tom Green County, Susan Werner is the Justice of the Peace Pct. 1, Fred Buck is the Justice of the Peace in Pct. 3 and Eddie Howard is the Justice of the Peace in Pct. 4.
Buck is also retiring at the end of the current term. There were three candidates to replace Buck in the March 1, 2022 GOP Primary; Stacye Speck, Ron Perry and Martha Muro. Speck and Perry have advanced to the May 24 runoff election. The winner of that runoff will be sworn in as the new Justice of the Peace, Pct. 3 on Jan. 1, 2023.
