Sheriff Investigates Two Suspicious Fires in Grape Creek

SAN ANGELO, TX — At approximately 2:15 p.m., the Grape Creek Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the 7400 block of Flamingo Rd. in Grape Creek for a report of an 'Unknown Fire'.

While fire units were responding, several calls came in from passerbys reporting that the unknown fire was a grass fire that had spread to a structure, causing the structure to catch fire.

Upon arrival of Grape Creek Engine 97 & 98, the fire was reported to be actually two separate vehicle fires off a private road and on a lot surrounded by heavy brush and vegetation. There was no grass fire or structure fire.

One semi truck and one pickup truck were fully engulfed in flames and both were subsequently completely destroyed. Fire department units from Grape Creek and Quail Valley kept the fire from spreading into a grass fire by protecting 2 portable buildings that were near the vehicle fires.

There were no property owners or citizens at the property lot at the time of the fires.

This is the second time fire units have responded to this particular address. On June 21, 2018, fire units responded to residential mobile home at the lot that was fully engulfed in flames.

The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause of today's fire.
