Tom Green County Commissioners Accept $1 Million Grant for Outdoor Warning Sirens

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Tom Green County Commissioners' Court unanimously voted Tuesday to accept a $1 million grant from the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) for the installation of an outdoor warning siren system and related equipment.

During the regular meeting held on January 20 in the Edd B. & Frances Frink Keyes Building, the court considered and approved a resolution and agreement to accept the TWDB grant.

Precinct 3 Commissioner Rick Bacon explained that the $1 million award is part of a larger allocation to multiple counties. He described the funding as an "automatic deal" that provides each eligible county $1 million to get started.

Bacon said the program will be county-wide, with the TWDB expected to provide guidance and designate specific areas for sirens in the coming months. He added that the county is coordinating with the City of San Angelo on potential equipment placement within city limits.

"This money was only available to the counties, so if the cities want to participate, they had to let us know that they want it also," Bacon said.

The motion to accept the grant passed without opposition.
